Savage Gear System Box Bag

For the last four years, I have used a HPA Chest Pack and a pair of double-sided boxes to store my bass fishing lures. Although they are still going strong, I have never been 100% satisfied with this setup when targeting wrasse.

The double-sided lure boxes I use for my bass fishing

Double-sided lure boxes work very well for storing hard and soft bass lures. However, I have found that the lures I typically use for wrasse do not fit in this style of lure box neatly or efficiently. Although small, the creature baits etc that I use for my wrasse fishing are actually quite wide, and can be crushed easily between the narrow dividers. Also, the sloping V-shape compartments can make it very difficult to stack several lures in the same section, and, as there are no trebles to contend with, a lot of space is actually wasted in each compartment.

Savage Gear System Box Bag (size small)

I have tried a few different lure storage options for wrasse fishing, but I am currently liking this Savage Gear System Box Bag (size small). Previously, I have always avoided sling style bags for my bass fishing as I find they move around a lot, especially when you're walking and wearing a rucksack. However, when wrasse fishing, I often move around less and take my rucksack off when I fish, meaning that sling bags become a much more viable option.

How I currently fill the three boxes that come with the bag

The Savage Gear System Box bag comes with 3 lure boxes, giving you more than enough space for all your lures. In one of these boxes I store lures from the Savage Gear Ned Kit (it is important to keep these separate to stop the Duratech material melting with other plastic lures). In another box I have a selection of creature baits (crab/crayfish imitations), and in the last box I have a few more lures including some paddletails and other creature baits. I have removed the wallets that come with the bag, and instead use this space for a few packs of Berkley Gulp!.

Two boxes from the pocket box set

In the pockets around the outside of the bag I keep my leader material and two boxes from the Savage Gear Pocket box set to store all my chebs, Texas weights and clips etc. In the plier holster on the outside of the bag I keep a pair of the Savage Gear Aluminium Pliers.

I'm planning to target wrasse a lot of over the summer, so it will be interesting to see how the bag holds up. It does feel well built, but it is never going to get anything like the saltwater abuse that my Chest Pack receives whilst wading. I'm already converted to using the more traditional style lure boxes to store creature baits, but I'll give it some more time to see how I get on with sling style bags.
